A rare Ashtead Potters Wembley beaker with brown Herrick Lion. These beakers were made as souveniers for the 1924/5 Wembley British Empire Exhibition at which Ashtead Potters had a stand. It is thought that the beakers may have actually been produced at the exhibition.
The beaker stands 88mm (3.5 inches) tall and is 75mm (3 inches) wide at the rim and 53mm (2.1 inches) wide at the base. The base mark shows the early Ashtead Potters mark as expected for the year of the exhibition - 1924/1925. There is a hand lettered code of 'E.5. e/4' and three a 'circle' which signify the decorator of the beaker.
The condition of the beaker is good, but there are 3 or 4 hairlines running vertically down from the rim. These pieces often suffer from hairlines due to tension produced in the firing process. There is a nibble to the rim and also a small chip to edge of the base. There is light clen overall crazing too. A very rare item.
