Christopher Robin No 24 nursery ware Saucer by Ashtead Potters. The text reads 'The Engineer' together with illustrations from the poem of the same name from A. A. Milne's book of poetry 'Now we are Six'. The saucer can be paired with [No. 4 - Cup]/christopherrobin4cup.html. The saucer is transfer printed but the original set (presented to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1928) was hand painted, as was a second 'special edition' presented to A. A. Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne - the inspiration for the character.
The legend on the base of the saucer reads: This is No. 24 Of 24 Pieces of the Christopher Robin Nursery Set made in England by Ashtead Potters Ltd. Epsom, from E. H. Shepard's copyright Designs Regd No. 740363
The saucer is 152mm (6 inches) wide and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is overall clean crazing to the saucer which is typical of such pieces.
