Christopher Robin No 5 nursery ware Saucer by Ashtead Potters. The illustations and text show 'Ticket Man', 'Muffin Man', 'Puppy', 'Postman' and 'Doctor' from the poem 'Busy' from A. A. Milne's book 'Now we are Six'. The saucer is transfer printed but the original set (presented to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1928) was hand painted, as was a second 'special edition' presented to A. A. Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne - the inspiration for the character.
The legend on the base of the saucer reads: This is No. 5 Of 24 Pieces of the Christopher Robin Nursery Set made in England by Ashtead Potters Ltd. Epsom, from E. H. Shepard's copyright Designs Regd No. 740336
The saucer is 152mm (6 inches) wide and is in very good condition apart from a very feint 20mm hairline running from the edge of the saucer. No chips and there is hardly any crazing to the piece.
