No. 11 of the Ashtead Potters Christopher Robin Nursery Set is a medium jug. The episodes mentioned on the jug are 'Emmeline' from the poem 'Before Tea' from the book 'When We Were Very Young' by A. A. Milne and also 'That's what I'm doing - Newting' from the poem 'Down By The Pond' from 'Now we are Six', a book of poetry also by the same author. The jug is the Ashtead 'Liverpool' shape, which was produced in a range of sizes. The tea cup is transfer printed but the original set (presented to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1928) was hand painted, as was a second 'special edition' presented to A. A. Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne - the inspiration for the character.
The legend on the base of the jug reads: This is No. 11 Of 24 Pieces of the Christopher Robin Nursery Set made in England by Ashtead Potters Ltd. Epsom, from E. H. Shepard's copyright Designs Regd No. ??????
