No. 11 of the Ashtead Potters Christopher Robin Nursery Set is a medium jug. The excerpts displayed on the jug are all taken from ‘Now We Are Six’, a book of poetry by A. A. Milne and include: '"No, I mean goats."' from the poem ‘The Old Sailor’, 'When it's done carry one' and 'And then it's time for tea.’ - both lines from the poem ‘The Emperors Rhyme’. 'Knight in Armour' is the title of a poem from ‘Now We Are Six’, though to be more accurate should contain hyphens thus 'Knight-In-Armour'.
The jug is the Ashtead 'Liverpool' shape, which was produced in a range of sizes. The tea cup is transfer printed but the original set (presented to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1928) was hand painted, as was a second 'special edition' presented to A. A. Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne - the inspiration for the character.
The legend on the base of the jug reads: This is No. 12 Of 24 Pieces of the Christopher Robin Nursery Set made in England by Ashtead Potters Ltd. Epsom, from E. H. Shepard's copyright Designs Regd No. ??????
