No. 16 of the Ashtead Potters Christopher Robin Nursery Set is a side plate, 155mm (6.1 inches) wide. The quotation reads 'Four days later, there was Pooh...' from 'Piglet was surrounded by water' from A. A. Milne's 'Winnie the Pooh' stories. The illustration shows Winnie the Pooh sitting on a tree branch with a large stash of honey, though according to the book, his honey has completely run out after the fourth day. The side plate is transfer printed but the original set (presented to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1928) was hand painted, as was a second 'special edition' presented to A. A. Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne - the inspiration for the character.
The legend on the base of the side plate reads: This is No. 16 Of 24 Pieces of the Christopher Robin Nursery Set made in England by Ashtead Potters Ltd. Epsom, from E. H. Shepard's copyright Designs Regd No. 739926
